ACCT 104 - Understanding Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse
Description: 3.0 CONTACT HOURS of continuing ed.
Domestic violence and substance abuse are often intertwined. As a counselor, you may struggle with how to treat both together or separately. Often substance use can prevent the domestic violence survivor from leaving or may cause them to return to the violence.
We’ll develop and understanding of the dynamics when working with both and discuss several case studies to support assessment and treatment of both. NCASPPB approved. See NBCC approval statement below.
1. Develop a new understanding of the interplay between DV and SA, exploring both assessment and treatment.
2.Explore current trends in DV, identifying community resources necessary to case manage and treat DV and SA, develop a comfort level in talking with clients in crisis with both DV and SA. How to handle assessment and treatment when children are involved in the DV home.
