ACCT 105 - HIV and Hep C Counseling in Mental Health and Substance Use

Description: 3.0 CONTACT HOURS of continuing ed. (HIV and Ethics)

Learn the basics of HIV and Hep C counseling, screening, assessment, testing, treatment, case management and referral. We will look at the ethical implications of not assessing for HIV and Hep C in a clinical assessment as well as the ethics of knowing your resources for HIV/Hep C positive clients.

We’ll learn about the most recent counseling strategies for all populations including prevention and screening, most recent medical treatments, current testing options, psychoeducational resources, and treatment options should a client test positive. Counselors have an ethical responsibility to address HIV/Hep C in the clinical assessment and in addressing HIV/Hep C based on a client’s culture and gender orientation. NCASPPB approved. Objectives:

1. Learn and or review the basic and advanced counseling skills involved with HIV and Hep C counseling in diverse populations.

2. Learn and or review the most recent testing for and treatment of HIV and Hep C and the responsibility to inform your clients about the most up to date resources.
