Description:

Self-Inquiry is a process of utilizing the neuroscience of contemplation, bilateral brain and body stimulation to regulate the central nervous system, and journaling.

Ultimately, all the answers to our greatest questions, worries, concerns, and deepest desires for healing come from within. The counselor is merely the facilitator of a process to access that great inner source of knowledge and understanding.

Self-Inquiry is both a self-help skill and an effective counseling technique to support the client to go within their own mind and body to discover a compassionate higher awareness and resolution of life’s problems. It is essential that the counselor utilize and experience self-inquiry to understand it’s process and fully experience finding their own inner awareness and understanding.

The best part of the practice of self-inquiry is that it safely invites the client to move away from surface content of issues to a deeper awareness of their own capacity to resolve issues from within, a place of pure objectivity and non-judgmental understanding.

Self-Inquiry naturally moves from a state of non-judgmental awareness to a plan of action that brings about the possibility of life change. It helps a client move out of being stuck in the content of their problem(s).

Self-Inquiry joins several evidenced-based skills to support client self-efficacy and problem resolution experienced from within themselves.

 Objectives:

1.      Participants will LEARN and PRACTICE Self-Inquiry as 3-4 skills utilizing the neuroscience of contemplation, bilateral brain and bilateral stimulation to regulate the central nervous system, and writing down/journaling thoughts, feelings, and sensations that arise in the client’s awareness as they move deeper into the contemplative process. Self-inquiry assists the client in getting unstuck from ruminating thoughts and remove barriers.

2.      Participants will develop a basic and advanced understanding of how a mental health and or substance use client may utilize mindfulness based self-inquiry to intervene between negative cognitive thoughts and the resulting behaviors that may sabotage recovery.

3.      Participants will also learn how mindful self-inquiry works by supporting the client to go deeper in their counseling process as well as gently move through barriers in their counseling process. Client’s will complete self-inquiry with an action plan for change in their thoughts, behavior, and life goals.
