DESCRIPTION:
Applied professional ethics requires a “real time” understanding of how to utilize our professional ethics during social, political, and economic instability. Social advocacy and social activism is within our scope of practice as deemed by our state and national licensing boards. We will examine the call to action of applied ethics by the American Counseling Association, National Association of Social Workers, North Carolina Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board, American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.
In the past few months, we have seen vast cuts in federal funding and workforce to the programs and services, that uphold the framework for our profession of counseling and social work. These cuts have caused a large number of clients including veterans, economically disadvantaged clients, oppressed clients, sick and disabled clients, elderly, and many others to lack the support to meet their most basic needs.
This training will identify, explore, and discuss professional ethics in relation to our personal and professional values, an exploration of how to apply ethics in a changing social, political, and economic landscape, how to build resources to meet the needs of our clients, and a call to action in order to resist further loss of funding and services. Be prepared to work in breakout groups to think “out of the box” and identify steps to advocate for client services. Social advocacy and social activism are within our scope of practice as deemed by our state and national licensing boards.
