DESCRIPTION: Understanding and Treating Both Toxic Shame and Codependency is a training to identify and treat the debilitating symptoms of toxic shame which may be a result of trauma and neglect in childhood, codependency, and or substance use.

This is a training to define and understand how debilitating shame and codependency present in a client, how to assess for both, how to use CBT/Mindfulness-based CBT, Compassion Focused Therapy, emotional regulation skills, and trauma management/treatment to address both.

We’ll take a look at the research and strategies of John Bradshaw, PhD., “3 Steps to Joy”, Brenard Golden, PhD, “Overcoming the Paralysis of Toxic Shame”, Brene Brown, PhD., “Listening to Shame”, and Darlene Lancer, LMFT, Conquering Shame and Codependency: 8 Steps to Freeing the True You, AND Paul Gilbert, PhD, Compassion-Focused Therapy.

Objectives:

1.     Participants will define and discuss toxic/debilitating shame and codependency as it addresses both mental health and substance use.

2.     Participants will learn multiple strategies for treating shame and codependency, including CBT/Mindfulness-Based CBT, Emotional Regulation Skills, Compassion-Focused Therapy, and Trauma management/treatment or referral in relation to both mental health and substance use.

No refunds are made due to technology problems resulting from participants audiovisual equipment or personal internet failures. Arriving more than 20 minutes late to a virtual training may prevent receipt of full workshop hours.

Replacement of Certificates of Attendance:

Participants will receive their Certificate of Attendance within 48-72 hours of the ACCT training completion. It will be sent to the email that you utilized to register. We encourage you to download and or print them immediately upon receipt. Request for replacement copies of certificates will be $10 per copy.
