Narrative Therapy: Story Visioning and Story Telling for Mental Health and Substance Use Counseling

 Friday, January 24th, 2025

9 am-12:15 pm Eastern

3.0 contact hours of Approved Continuing Education for LCMHC, LCSW, Peer Support, CDAC, LCAS

COST: $65

Narrative Therapy will focus on understanding how we all have a story of our past, present, and future. We'll develop skills for identifying and working with the story to understand ourselves and our clients as we move to develop a present and future story with acceptance and future possibilities. Narrative therapy supports the opportunity for clients to go deeper into their story while taking an observer role leading to new insights.

This is a skills based workshop with narrative experientials that you will be able to use in individual and group therapy the next day. We will utilize both mental health and substance use case studies.

Objectives:

1. Develop an understanding of how we all use story or narrative to define and make sense of our world experience.

2. Develop narrative skills to assess and bring new meaning to our past, present, and future stories through skills such as self-inquiry, using the miracle question, developing the story using a story wire, and developing a narrative story as an icebreaker and ongoing therapy.
